BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) – The intercity railway construction plan for 2019-2025 period proposed by east China's Jiangsu Province for cities along the Yangtze River in the province won the approval of China's top economic planner National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on December 26, 2018.
NDRC noted that the move will help further promote the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, support the integration of the Yangtze River Delta, improve the comprehensive traffic network in cities along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu and foster high-quality development.
The plan is aimed to form the main framework of regional intercity railway as well as the Nanjing metropolitan area and the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou metropolitan area intercity railway networks, basically covering all the cities each with a population of over 200,000 in Jiangsu.
A traffic circle will thus be built up with the commuting time from Nanjing to districts and cities within Jiangsu shortened to one and a half hour, within areas along the Yangtze River in the province to one hour, and from central cities along the Yangtze River to adjoining cities to half to one hour.
A batch of intercity railway projects will be designed and constructed in the near future, among which the total mileage within Jiangsu will reach about 980 kilometers.
In the short term, about 218 billion yuan of investment will be put in related projects in Jiangsu, and about 13.7 billion yuan of investment will be put in related projects in neighboring Anhui Province. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
