BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The daily output of shale gas in southern Sichuan Province has surged 119.3 percent year on year to generate 20.11 million cubic meters on December 24 of 2018, hitting a record new high, according to PetroChina.
Currently, southern Sichuan has become China's largest shale gas production base, with its daily output accounting about 4.2 percent of the country's daily output, according to PetroChina.
It is noted that PetroChina, China's leading oil refiner, has put 142 oil drilling machines into operation in southern Sichuan in 2018, three times the number in 2017.
In 2017, the shale gas output in southern Sichuan reached 3 billion cubic meters and that is expected to exceed 4.1 billion cubic meters in 2018. (Edited by Jiang Feifan, Hu Pingchao)
