A panel from Germany's governing party has called for the government to increase its efforts to reduce bureaucracy for businesses.
"Ever-increasing obligations when it comes to documentation and transparency are weighing down businesses' everyday operations," said Wolfgang Steiger, the general secretary of the Christian Democrats' (CDU) business council.
Legal regulations have also become so wide and complex, that "it is almost impossible" for businesses to operate without external legal advice, he said.
He cited tax, labour and environmental law as areas of particular concern.
