YINCHUAN, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- A non-stop flight will be launched between the city of Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Hong Kong in January, local authorities said Thursday.
The new route will be operated by Air China, which is scheduled to depart Yinchuan every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
The inaugural flight will take off in late January next year.
The launch of the new route is to further strengthen cooperation between the inland province and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, make travel easier for businessmen and visitors, reduce cargo transportation costs, and boost the development of trade and tourism, according to the regional commerce department.
Hong Kong is one of the major sources of overseas investment, trade partners, and tourist destinations for Ningxia.
Statistics showed that, so far, the region has nearly 500 HK-invested enterprises, accounting for about 50 percent of the entire overseas companies.
There are 28 Ningxia companies in Hong Kong, which have invested 1.4 billion U.S. dollars in the special administrative region, accounting for over 55 percent of Ningxia's overseas direct investment.
The total volume of trade between Ningxia and Hong Kong reached over two billion yuan (291 million U.S. dollars) from January to November.
