BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The commercial health insurance premiums in China are expected to maintain a growth rate of around 25 percent in the next five to ten years, according to Zhou Yanli, former vice chairman of China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC).
China's commercial health insurance premium has surged 38.45 percent to 438.946 billion yuan in 2017 from 86.276 billion yuan in 2012, while it reached 505.878 billion yuan in the first 11 month of 2018, exceeding 500 billion yuan for the first time, according to Zhou.
Zhou added that the compensation expenses of health insurance stood at 152.322 billion yuan in the first 11 months of 2018, up 35.35 percent year on year.
He predicted that the compensation expenses of health insurance will likely account for 15 percent to 20 percent of China's total medical and health expenses in the future, after the commercial health insurance business in China come to a period of stable development.
