BEIJING, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- On the completion of debugging efforts of the Unit 4 generator on Saturday, the second phase of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, the largest nuclear cooperation project between China and Russia, has been put into commercial operation.
Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, located in Lianyungang city of east China's Jiangsu Province, is a demonstrative project for deepened cooperation between China and Russia in energy sector.
The plant is designed to build eight 1-million-kilowatt pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power generating units with a total installed capacity of more than 9 GW and an annual power generating capacity of 70 billion kWh.
The first 4 units of the plant utilized VVER-1000 units designed and supplied by Russian company Rosatom, and meet the third-generation safety requirements.
The first three units of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant have entered commercial operation and safely generated more than 190 billion kWh. (Edited by Wu Shuang, wushuang2018@xinhua.org)
