Prospects for a traineeship in Germany are better than they have been for a long time. Out of 100 young people seeking a training position in the current year, there were 97 openings, according to the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) in Bonn.
Altogether, the traineeship jobs offered by companies had increased by 17,800 or 3.2 per cent over those of last year. This put the total at 574,200, the highest level since 2009. At the same time, the number of traineeships still open increased by 17.7 per cent this year.
Meanwhile the ongoing boom in online retail trade in Germany has triggered a storm of applicants for training in a new labour skill, that of electronic commerce merchant. About 1,400 traineeship contracts had been signed with trainees in the new field for the current 2018-2019 training year, the German Retail Association HDE reported in Berlin.
