HEFEI, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- The construction of a key facility to support the China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) started Friday in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province.
The new facility will serve as a test platform for the research and development of key components for fusion reactor, such as magnets, heating systems, and divertors, according to a press release of Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The facility will encompass two main research systems: the magnet and tokamak/divertor systems. It will lay a solid experimental foundation for CFETR.
Led by the Institute of Plasma Physics under Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, the support facility construction is expected to be completed in five years.
On completion, the facility will be a comprehensive research and test platform with multiple functions supporting global fusion research.
