BEIJING, Dec.14 (Xinhua) -- Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province has paid high attention to environmental governance in the past 19 months since its establishment, in order to lay a solid foundation for its future construction, according to Chen Gang, director of Xiongan New Area Administrative Committee.
The year of 2018 has been a crucial year for Xiongan, another new area of "national significance" establised in April 2017 to facilitate the coordinated development of Beijing and surrounding region to solve pollution problems. Many listed companies have participated in the area's environmental governance and achieved remarkable results in sewage treatment, reservoir restoration and farm pond pollution treatment.
As of November, 3.45 million cubic meters of various types of garbage have been cleared, 85 illegal sewage outlets blocked, and 383 polluted farm ponds restored, with the remaining ponds expected to be cleaned by the end of the year.
In May, Yonker Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. (300187.SZ) contracted the project of pollution control and ecological restoration of Tanghe Sewage Reservoir, which was a major water management project of Xiongan New area. At present, all on-site work has been completed with the use of smart management systems, disposing of more than 125,000 metric tons (tonnes) of solid waste and about 8,500 tonnes of suspected hazardous wastes.
Another example was Beijing Origin Water Technology Co., Ltd. (BOW) (300070.SZ), which successfully purified farm ponds in Xiongan's Anxin County by utilizing its self-developed compact waste water treatment (CWT).
In addition, clean heating projects are gradually implemented in Xiongan New Area, including gas for coal programs and energy storage innovation using solar photothermal and auxiliary heat sources. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
