BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Seraphim Solar System Co. Ltd. (Seraphim), a world-class solar panel manufacturer in east China's Jiangsu Province, recently announced to build a 500 MW solar cell plant in South Africa jointly with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), a self-financing state-owned corporation in South Africa.
Located in the Coega Industrial Development Zone in South Africa's Port Elizabeth, it will be the first solar cell plant on the African continent, which is planned to start operation in the third quarter of 2019.
The new plant will directly serve Seraphim's photovoltaic module manufacturing plant in Eastern Cape of South Africa which has been operating since last summer, helping effectively reduce the adverse effects of trade barriers on the company.
By relying on Seraphim's abundant experience in solar cell manufacturing, the establishment of the new plant will help promote the development of renewable energy in Africa, said David Nunez Blundell, a partner of Seraphim in South Africa. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
