BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's e-commerce giant Alibaba Group has fully deployed the Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), according to Zhang Jianfeng, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and President of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.
Alibaba had tens of millions of Taobao app users participate in this year's 11.11 Singles Day shopping festival through IPv6 network, which was the first large-scale application of IPv6 technology in China, Zhang said.
Alibaba has so far provided IPv6 service for 20 million customers by December 2018, and it has basically completed IPv6 transformation of the internal system of Alibaba Group, Zhang added.
IPv6 is a new generation of Internet Protocol (IP) designed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to replace IPv4, which can overcome the problem of the strained IP address resources and paved the way for the realization of IoT.
Alibaba plans to complete IPv6 ecology construction in three to five years, said Zhang. (Edited by Jiang Feifan, Niu Huizhe)
