Despite a long drought, K+S can guarantee the potash production at its plant along the Werra river until at least Christmas, the German minerals company said on Monday, confirming its earnings forecast for this year.
Its operating income is expected to be in the range of 570 million to 630 million euros, the corporation announced in Kassel. This forecast assumes an average business with de-icing salts in December.
Full production at the three sites of the Werra potash plant is guaranteed through December 23, K+S announced. Disposal-related production interruptions are only expected over the holidays until January 1, if the drought persists. In case of significant rainfall, the stoppages could be further reduced.
K+S estimated the negative impact on earnings at a maximum of 15 million euros.
In the first quarter of 2019, production stoppages are currently considered unlikely - even if there is a prolonged drought - given a reduction of stocks in the buffer storage ponds, the company said.
