BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The cross-border e-commerce in China is expected to embrace high-quality development, thanks to the continuous improvement in the top-level design such as the introduction of the e-commerce law and the recently-released favorable policy on allowing more cross-border e-commerce purchase.
Electrical appliances, beauty and luxury will be the major areas that the domestic cross-border e-commerce enterprises will scramble for next, according to the Xinhua-run Economic Information Daily.
--- Favorable policies to support cross-border e-commerce
In recent years, the cross-border e-commerce legal system has been continuously improved, with the continuous enhancement in the supervision system, customs clearance and trade facilitation, said Yang Tao, an official of the Comprehensive Department of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), at a cross-border e-commerce forum in Putian, Fujian Province.
China has been a pioneer in the standardization construction and supervision measures of the cross-border e-commerce, such as transaction, payment, logistics, customs clearance, tax rebates, and foreign exchange settlement. A set of policy frameworks adapting to the development of cross-border e-commerce has initially taken shape, according to Zhang Li, deputy director of Department of Foreign Trade of MOC.
In addition to the top-level design, China has also made breakthroughs in the establishment of the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot areas.
So far, China has set up 35 cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot areas, which will help their innovation development.
--- Cross-border e-commerce stimulating domestic consumption
According to the data of the MOC, it is estimated that consumption of the Chinese residents in the form of overseas shopping is about 200 billion U.S. dollars a year, with the high-end goods and daily consumer goods in the shopping list.
To meet the growing demands, the domestic cross-border e-commerce enterprises have played an important role. For example, at the first China International Import Expo (CIIE), the domestic e-commerce platforms planned to purchase more than 1.6 trillion yuan worth of imported goods.
Industry insiders believe that the cross-border e-commerce platforms that integrate the resources of the global commodity circulation supply chain have played an increasingly important role in stimulating domestic demand and expanding the imports. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
