BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp.) aims to achieve the geothermal heating area of more than 120 million square meters in 2023, according to Ma Yongsheng, president of Sinopec Corp, at a forum about the geothermal heating on Tuesday.
Promoting and realizing green development is not only the urgent need for the company to survive, but also also an inevitable requirement to achieve sustainable development, said Ma.
In recent years, Sinopec Corp has made efforts to develop the urban clean energy business, which is mainly based on geothermal heat and waste heat.
It has advanced the geothermal development in the circle of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, and the provinces of Henan, Shanxi and Shaanxi and built a capacity of supplying the geothermal heating in an area of 50 million square meters, replacing 1.42 million metric tons (tonnes) of standard coal and cutting emissions of 3.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
It is worth noting that in the heating season of 2018, the company provided geothermal heating for more than 5,000 villagers in 11 villages in Xiongan New Area, which will help reduce emissions of more than 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
