BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Provinces and cities in China's Yangtze River Delta have made transportation interconnection a priority for the Yangtze River Delta integration, with investment in the projects to be built soon in the region exceeding 250 billion yuan, according to the Shanghai Securities News on Tuesday.
With the national focus on the Yangtze River Delta integration, the ministry-level departments are formulating plans to support the integration in the region.
China's top economic planner, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) is compiling a mater plan for the development of the Yangtze River Delta integration. The Ministry of Transport is also making plans for development of transportation integration in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Under such circumstances, transportation interconnection has become the engine for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
Shanghai municipality and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui have recently launched the initiative to deepen integration of their transportation planning and accelerate the interconnection of their transportation infrastructure.
For example, Anhui Province has recently unveiled the planning on the trunk waterway network for 2018-2030, under which it plans to invest 62 billion yuan to upgrade the main channel, realize direct link between the Yangtze River and Huaihe River waterways, and achieve effective connection with waterways of other adjacent provinces and cities.
Meanwhile, Jiangsu Province also formulated a plan for the intercity rail transit network of cities along the Yangtze River, which has been submitted for approval. Projects like the Nanjing-Huaian intercity railway have been included in the plan.
It is reported that Jiangsu will likely start construction of five regional intercity railways soon, including Nanjing-Huaian intercity railway and Nanjing-Xuancheng intercity railway, with a total length of 705 kilometers and a total investment of 136.9 billion yuan.
In addition, Shanghai is also making efforts to accelerate road connections with neighboring provinces and cities. For example, on November 11, construction started on a road connecting Jinshan District of Shanghai and Jiaxing City of Zhejiang Province.
Industry insiders believe that the connection of the provincial boundary roads will play a positive role in improving the function of the cross-provincial regional road network, enhancing the surrounding traffic environment and effectively promoting the coordinated development of cross-provincial areas.
