CHONGQING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Chongqing completed the construction of the first 5G continuous coverage test area on Wednesday, marking its another step towards 5G commercialization in China.
The test area currently covers 2 kilometers of roads with a total coverage area of 2.4 square kilometers. After measurement, the 5G rate of each point in the test area is basically stable at 10 Gbps or more, which is 100 times that of the 4G network, said an official of China Mobile Chongqing Branch.
On the day, 5G applications such as 5G remote driving, 5G drones and virtual reality were also unveiled.
The remote driving equipment is connected to the remote vehicle through the 5G network. The remote driving system can take advantage of the 5G network such as high reliability and low delay, and combine technologies of network, video, control and artificial intelligence to achieve safe driving, said the official.
In April, Chongqing launched the first 5G test network. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
