BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Cutting-edge technologies such as Internet of Vehicles (IoVs) and driverless cars will be applied in Xiongan New Area in the near future, said Miao Wei, minister of Industry and Information Technology.

Miao made the above remarks on a meeting held in Xiongan New Area, with the theme of IoV development.

He also urged the ministry, together with the local government, to work on IoV and intelligent transportation and form a convenient travel service system.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Transport, and the government of Xiongan New Area signed an agreement to explore new mechanisms and administrative means for the IoVs and intelligent transportation in Xiongan New Area.

IoV is the foundation for unmanned driving. It is a network connecting people, cars, roads, and cities through mobile communication technology, car navigation systems, intelligent terminal devices and information network platforms.

Many enterprises have launched pilot programs successfully in Xiongan New Area, which will underpin the development of IoV.

In March of this year, China Mobile completed the first automatic remote driving test via 5G-V2X (5G car networking) in Xiongan New Area.

Later, in May, Baidu launched a fully automatic unmanned road test in Xiongan New Area. (Edited by Wu Shuang, wushuang2018@xinhua.org)
