BEIJING, Nov.16 (Xinhua) -- China is embracing an era of digital economy, with data serving as the asset, which has brought about opportunities to its economic development.
At the Fifth World Internet Conference held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, a blue book was released, showing that the scale of China's digital economy reached 27.2 trillion yuan in 2017.
Baidu founder Li Yanhong recently announced that Baidu and FAW-Hongqi have jointly launched China's first L4-class driverless car, which will be applied in small scales in 2019 and large scales in 2020.
Internet of Things, represented by unmanned vehicles, is expected to witness explosive growth in the next few years, said Li.
The digital technology also created new ways for interpersonal connections. Taking short video as an example, Kuaishou founder and CEO Su Hua said that the Internet of Things has realized the precise matching between video and users, which will lead to more personalized content and services.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), there are more than 50 regional influential industrial Internet platforms in China, connecting more than 100,000 sets of industrial devices.
The foundation of the digital economy lies in digital technology, high-speed access to networks, rigorous scientific algorithms, superior computing power, and sophisticated network security systems, according to industry insiders.
By the end of September, the fiber broadband users has presented 88 percent of total broadband users in China, according to MIIT.
The ministry will network infrastructure transformation and support the network-based research to improve the ability of data analysis and processing and innovation, said Chen Zhaoxiong, vice minister of the Industry and Information Technology. (Edited by Wu Shuang, wushuang2018@xinhua.org)
