BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's central authorities unveiled a document to strictly prohibit the production capacity expansion of low-speed electric vehicles on November 8, in a bid to strengthen the standard management of such vehicles.
According to the document, China will clean up and rectify low-speed electric vehicle producers and sellers, stop formulating and releasing incentive policies on low-speed electric vehicle development and speed up the elimination of illegal low-speed electric vehicles in use with the establishment of long-term regulatory mechanisms.
In recent years, China's low-speed electric vehicle production and market have been expanding disorderly with production and sales number exceeding one million. As a result, the accidents and deaths caused by such vehicles keep increasing.
The rectification will contribute to the safeguard of consumer rights and public transport order and reduce safety hazards for public travel, noted experts. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
