BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- China's internet giant Tencent and Nature Research announced that they will reward early career researchers who have brought a positive influence to society.

The Research Awards for Driving Global Impact was launched by Tencent in partnership with Nature Research during WE Summit in Beijing on Sunday. The award aims to remarkably enhance research influence.

The award focuses on a different area of research each year.

In 2019, the award will give opportunities to young researchers in the field of brain science. The applicants are required to demonstrate the positive impact of their research on the economy, society, public policy or service, health, environment or living quality or highlight the potential impact. In addition, applicants should also state their plans to make their visions come true.

The award is with the objective of providing support to early career scientists to advance their research programs and translate research into societal impact, said Edward Cheng, vice president of Tencent.

"We have strikingly few approaches for treating the devastating brain disorders which pose a challenge to the wellbeing of individuals, the strength of our social networks and our global economies," said Philip Campbell, editor-in-chief of Springer Nature.

"This award, for candidates performing exciting research across a broad spectrum of brain research, will promote a deeper understanding of what makes us human and advance global health and well-being."

Submission of applications opens on Nov. 4 this year and closes on Feb. 9 of 2019. The winners list will be released in November of 2019.

WE Summit has been held annually since 2013. The event draws scientists and innovators from around the world to predict future challenges and explore solutions to progress human development.
