The German carmaker Volkswagen is hoping to build on the continuing boom in sport utility vehicles.
By 2025, the company plans to offer more than 30 SUV models worldwide - up from the current 11, VW brand sales chief Juergen Stackmann said on Thursday in Wolfsburg.
The line-up is to include electric SUVs. Volkswagen expects every second VW passenger car sold by 2025 to probably be an SUV, Stackmann said. So far, it is every fifth car.
The "big gap" in the current supply is small-sized cars. That is why the newest vehicle in Volkswagen's SUV portfolio is the Polo-sized T-Cross, which is being unveiled simultaneously in Europe, China and South America on Thursday.
