BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's postal industry has made great achievements in infrastructure construction in the past 40 years of reform and opening up.
Statistics showed that the total length of the postal routes has nearly doubled during the years. Revenues of postal business have increased 1,290 times. By 2017, the whole industry has 278,000 business outlets, 5.6 times than that of in 1978.
Shen Hongyan, spokesman with State Post Bureau said that the central government has completed the tasks of major institutional reform for the industry in recent 40 years, formulated and revised postal law for several times, promulgated and implemented a provisional regulation for express delivery.
At present, the number of express enterprises in China reached 20,000, with employees exceeding 2 million. China's express delivery business has ranked first in the world for four consecutive years, contributing more than 50 percent to world growth.
The postal industry's ability to serve advanced manufacturing industry, modern agriculture industry and cross-border online shopping has continued to grow.
Statistics of the State Post Bureau showed that the output value of manufacturing directly supported by express delivery reached 237.5 billion yuan in 2017. The express delivery industry contributed more than 30 percent consumption growth, and its indirect contribution to economic growth exceeded 20 percent.
Shen said, China will continue to deepen supply-side structural reform, advance development patterns of the industry, and improve the service quality of the delivery. (Edited by Ma Xin, maxin11@xinhua.org)
