BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Siemens will invest 3 billion yuan (about 430 million U.S. dollars) to build a medical imaging diagnosis and related laboratory diagnostic product innovation base in east China's Shanghai, the ground breaking ceremony for which was held in Shanghai's Pudong on October 19.
According to Siemens, this move will help expand its business in China and show its long-term commitment to the growing medical markets of China and the entire Asia-Pacific region.
The new base will become the first in-vitro diagnostic reagent factory of Siemens in the Asia-Pacific region and specialize in clinical chemical and immunoassay reagents production.
Besides, it will provide more localized products and solutions to better meet the changing needs of China's medical service market.
Around 500 jobs will be created when the new plant is put into full production. (Edited by Gu Shanshan, Zhang Yuan, zhangyuan11@xinhua.org)
