BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland will continuously encourage and support Taiwanese enterprises to participate in the construction of Belt and Road through cooperation with the mainland enterprises, according to Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a press conference, on Wednesday.
A number of Taiwanese enterprises have directly benefited from the construction of the Belt and Road in the past years. The products produced by some Taiwanese enterprises have been transported to Europe through the China-Europe freight trains which help them expand the markets and gain a new and stable logistics channel, said Ma.
Some Taiwanese enterprises have cooperated with the enterprises in the Chinese mainland to jointly build the infrastructure projects such as coal-fired power plants and combined cycle power plants in countries along the Belt and Road routes, through providing electrical equipment and supporting services.
In addition, Taiwanese banks have also cooperated with the mainland banks to provide project financing, which helps them gain more business opportunities, Ma added.
Over the past five years, significant progress has been made in the construction of the Belt and Road. The trade volume of goods between the Chinese mainland and the countries along the Belt and Road routes has exceeded more than 5 trillion U.S. dollars. The Chinese mainland has seen its outbound direct investment (ODI) in the countries along the routes exceed 60 billion U.S. dollars. More than 10,000 trips have been made by the China-Europe freight trains, according to Ma. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
