German industry registered a significant rise in orders in August as compared to previous months, according to figures released by the Federal Office of Statistics.
The number of orders was 2 percent higher than in the previous month, exceeding experts' expectations. By contrast, orders had been on the decline in the previous months.
August's figures were down 2.1 percent as compared to the same month last year, however.
Orders from within Germany were down 2.9 percent as compared to July, though those of foreign customers were up by 5.8 percent.
Particularly in demand were investment and consumer products, while orders for intermediate goods went down.
