October 10, 2018

Abstract : East China's Anhui Province Tuesday released an implementation plan which sets stict requirements and promotes the green development of the industry, in order to improve air quality.

安徽

HEFEI, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- East China's Anhui Province Tuesday released an implementation plan to improve air quality and win the battle for a blue sky.

The implementation plan aims at substantially reducing emissions of major air pollutants and greenhouse gases, seeing a marked drop in the density of PM 2.5, and decreasing the number of days with serious air pollution.

According to the plan, by 2020, emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in Anhui is required to decline 16 percent on the basis of 2015, and cities with low air quality standards should post a 18 percent fall in PM 2.5 density.

In addition, the rate of days with good air quality is required to meet the national standards, and the proportion of days with heavy pollution should decrease by 25 percent from the level in 2015.

The plan also outlines a series of policies to promote green development of the industry. They include prohibiting the construction of new factories for steel, coking, electrolytic aluminum, casting, cement and flat glass, and actively supporting the development of large-scale enterprises focusing on energy-saving and environmental protection.

Anhui will also promote new energy vehicles, and expect the sales volume to reach 150,000 units in 2020.

The prevention and control of air pollution in autumn and winter will be emphasized, according to the plan. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
