Prominent risk capital investors from Silicon Valley in California have provided growth capital of 30 million dollars in the start-up software company Instana in the northwestern German city of Solingen in North Rhine-Westphalia. The financing is being led by the Palo Alto-based investment company Meritech Capital. Among the investors are Facebook backer Accel, which in 2017 together with other investors had already provided some 20 million dollars to help Instana to expand its business.
The young company in Solingen has developed a solution for optimising and monitoring companies' software, something that experts term "Application Performance Management" (APM). Large-sized concerns and online shops with extensive reach often do not run one large application, but rather break up their applications into the smallest parts. These so-called "containers" can, during ongoing operations, be upgraded or even exchanged. But with this, the structure of the software becomes so complex that it must constantly be monitored for errors. This is where Instana comes in with its products.
By its own account, Instana has customers in more than 20 countries, including such major firms as Audi, Deutsche Telekom, ClearScore and Sixt Rent a Car. The firm was started up in Solingen in 2015 and in the meantime has offices in the United States and worldwide distribution. Development work is still going on in Solingen, with the company employing 120 workers.
