BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- China will make efforts to promote upgraded development of the cruise economy, according to a document recently released by Ministry of Transport (MOT) and other government authorities.
It is proposed that by 2035, China will see the annual cruise passenger traffic reach 14 million person-times and be capable of designing and building the large-scale cruise ships.
Since 2006, China's cruise passenger traffic has maintained an average annual growth of more than 40 percent, reaching 2.43 million person-times in 2017, which has driven the consumption and development of related industries and become a new bright spot for economic growth, said Wu Chungeng, spokesperson of the MOT.
However, compared with the international mature cruise market, the development of China's cruise market is still in its infancy. China still lags behind in the design and construction of cruise ships, the development of cruise ports, the cultivation of tourism markets, passenger services and supply of materials, Wu added.
