BEIJING, Sept.27 (Xinhua) – Virtual Power Plant (VPP) standard initiated by State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) has been accepted by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), SGCC announced on Energy Transition High-Level Forum & International Standard Pilot Base Launching Ceremony held recently.
VPP is not tradition power plant. It’s more like a smart power managing center, which could storage power through energy storage devices to stabilize power generation by distributed energy resources such as PV power and wind power, according to Du Xiangwan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
VPP is expected to be broadly applied in distributed power generation, northern clean heating, user-side demand response and electric vehicles in the future, said Wang Xuanwen, Party Secretary and General Manager at Trading Center of State Jibei Electric Power Company.
Experts from the forum added that the establishment of VPP standard in China marks the international community’ full recognition of China’s energy transformation and green development, and it is significant for China and global energy transformation.
It is noted that China has taken on a leading role in clean energy transition in recent years, since the country saw an annual increase of 44 percent in installed capacity of wind power and 191 percent in that of solar power from 2008 to 2017, which was higher than the respective global average growth rate of 19 percent and 46 percent.
Established in London in 1906, IEC was the world’s earliest and most influential international electrical standardization organization. It has issued a total of 7,713 international standards in the field of electrical engineering since establishment. (Edited by Jiang Feifan, Niu Huizhe)
