BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's natural gas demand is expected to maintain rapid growth before 2040 with new demand deriving from industries, residents and electric power sector, according to the report 2050 World and China Energy Outlook (2018) lately released by CNPC Economics & Technology Research Institute.
From 2040 to 2050, China's natural gas demand is likely to enter a period with steady growth, according to the report.
Wang Lining, an engineer with CNPC Economics & Technology Research Institute forecast that China's natural gas industry would stay in a golden period for development before 2040 on increasing urban population, improving gas pipeline network, developing distributed energy system, and pollution control.
Wang estimated China's annual natural gas consumption at 620 billion cubic meters by 2035 and 695 billion cubic meters by 2050.
The average annual growth of China’s natural gas demand in 2015-2035 is likely to reach 5.8 percent, but may decline to 0.7 percent in 2035-2050 due to the saturation of gas consumption in industrial and residential sectors, according to the report.
The report predicts that in 2050 China's non-fossil energy would account for about 35 percent in China's total energy consumption. (Edited by Bao Nuomin, Zhang Yuan, Baonuomin@xinhua.org, zhangyuan11@xinhua.org)
