ISLAMABAD, Sept. 26(Xinhua) -- Karot hydropower dam, the first hydropower project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), completed the river closure operationon on Saturday, marking the start of the full-swing construction of this project.
The project, listed as one of the prioritized projects under the CPEC, is being developed by Karot Power Company comprising Three Gorges South Asia Investment Limited, a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation, and Associated Technologies of Pakistan. It is the first investment project of the Silk Road Fund.
The dam, located in Punjab, Pakistan, is expected to be completed by 2021 with an installed capacity of 720MW. The project is being developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis with 5-year construction period and 30-year concession period. (Edited by Wu Shuang, Ding Lei; wushuang2018@xinhua.org)
