BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The State Post Bureau of China has recently signed a letter of intent with the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia for cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
According to the letter of intent, the two sides will jointly promote the construction of the international railway mail transport mechanism under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and improve the interconnection of the international postal network.
The Chinese government attaches great importance to the cooperation with the UPU. China will continue to actively participate in the UPU governance and maintain the stable operation of the international postal multilateral system, said Ma Junsheng, head of the State Post Bureau.
Bishar Abdirahman Hussein, director general of the UPU International Bureau, said that the Belt and Road Initiative has brought opportunities to the business development of member countries.
He also expressed his appreciation for China's efforts in strengthening the interconnection of the global postal network and promoting the development of international postal services. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
