The IFA technology fair is optimistically heading into its next edition. Over 1,800 exhibitors will present their latest products around the Funkturm Berlin from Friday onward.
"The IFA is the 'Smart Home' for the digital world," said Christian Göke, the head of the Messe Berlin exhibition grounds, on Wednesday at the opening ceremony. No other trade fair is as international or enlivens the market as much as the IFA, he added.
The market for consumer electronics is asserting itself in a stable situation, said Hans-Joachim Kamp, chairman of the board of the trade fair organizer Gfu. Trends like artificial intelligence and voice-control devices in particular are taking centre stage this year.
"We are currently experiencing the rapid rise of smart language assistants," said Christopher Meinecke of the German digital association Bitkom. The general public by now is sufficiently aware of these technologies, while more and more devices will naturally be controlled by voice in the future, said Meinecke. "A new billion dollar market is emerging here," he said.
