The Berlin-based startup Mitte, which has developed a device for the purification and mineralization of tap water for home use, has received a cash infusion of 10.6 million dollars (9.1 million Euro).
The financing round was headed by the investors Danone Manifesto Ventures, the New York-based venture capital arm of Danone, as well as VisVires New Protein Capital and Kärcher New Venture, the company announced.
With Mitte's system, water is first not only decalcified but also cleaned of impurities, including those from drug residues or other contaminants. The water is then enriched with various minerals during a second step, similar to natural springs. The procedure is controlled by an app.
Moritz Waldstein, the founder and CEO of Mitte, said the company will be able to execute their growth plans more effectively thanks to their new partners' considerable expertise in the fields of foodstuffs and beverages.
"We are convinced that our product will have a positive impact on water consumption, the environment and finally the entire water industry," said Waldstein.
