OVALLE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Punta Sierra wind farm, the first Chinese-financed wind farm in Chile, started to generate electricity on Friday.
The project, located in Ovalle in northern Chile, is invested by China's State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and involves an investment of about 150 million U.S. dollars. It has an installed capacity of 82 MW and generates about 282 GWh every year.
The wind farm will supply energy equivalent to 130,000 homes per year and has 32 wind turbines of 2.5 MW produced by Xinjiang Goldwind Science Technology Co., Ltd (002202.SZ).
SPIC vice president Jiang Yi said after the inauguration ceremony that SPIC entered Chilean market in 2016 and had since then invested 2 billion U.S. dollars into the country. (Edited by Wu Shuang; Ding Lei, dinglei@xinhua.org)
