BYD speeds up monorail mass transit system -- New energy carmaker BYD is speeding up to expand the market for its SkyRail monorail mass transit system to solve problems such as traffic congestion and air pollution. After five years of research and development costing 5 billion yuan (783 million U.S. dollars), BYD launched its first commercial SkyRail line in Yinchuan, capital of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region, on Sept 1, and was upgraded to automatic driving last year. The company has signed several domestic and international deals, including in the Philippines, Egypt, Brazil, Morocco and Cambodia.
Alibaba's Cainiao, Singapore Airlines form strategic partnership on air cargo -- Cainiao Network Technology Co., Ltd., the logistics arm of Chinese e-tailing giant Alibaba Group, signed a strategic partnership with Singapore Airlines to step up its international air cargo services on Aug. 21. The link-up was part of the agreement package between Alibaba and Singapore Airlines that covers a wide range of areas including ticket sales, loyalty programs, marketing initiatives and cloud services. Through cooperation with Singapore Airlines, Cainiao intends to improve its global smart logistics network that delivers globally within 72 hours, said Zhao Jian, general manager of Cainiao International.
Tencent to speed up online office layout -- Chinese Internet giant Tencent (HK. 00700) has accelerated its layout in online office market, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported on Aug. 22. The company saw its document platform’s monthly active users exceed 16 million, said Yan Xianqing, product manager of Tencent. It is learned that since the launch of Tencent document platform in April, the number of established documents and cooperative users increased by 40 percent and 39 percent month on month, respectively.
China Merchants Group, Sinopec Group signs strategic cooperation agreement -- China Merchants Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) on Aug. 20 in the fields of energy transportation, products supply and marketing, comprehensive logistics, ocean engineering equipment, e-commerce platform, and financial services. Li Jianhong, chairman with China Merchants Group said the two parties should give full play to their respective advantages, realize resource sharing and complement each other's advantages, and carry out all-round cooperation in various fields.
China Post, China Tower establish strategic cooperation -- China Post Group and China Tower Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Aug. 20 to promote in-depth cooperation in various fields such as business operation and resource sharing. According to the agreement, China Post will open its office and business premises as public service facilities to China Tower as communication facility site resource; and China Tower will provide China Post with comprehensive solutions including video surveillance and Internet of Things technology. In addition, China Post will also take advantage of its delivery network resources to provide logistics services such as warehousing and transportation for China Tower. China Tower will provide China Post with new energy application services in China Post’s electric transport vehicles and service outlets.
China Vanke net profit up 24.9 pct in H1 -- China's leading property developer Vanke posted a 24.9-percent year-on-year increase in net profit in the first half of the year, a company statement said. China Vanke said its net profit reached 9.12 billion yuan (about 1.32 billion U.S. dollars) in the first six months of 2018. Revenue surged 51.8 percent year-on-year to 105.97 billion yuan in the first half, according to the statement.
DiDi unveils voice assistant, AR navigation programs -- Chinese leading mobile transportation platform Didi Chuxing has unveiled a voice assistant and augmented reality (AR) slated for street testing in its latest efforts to use artificial intelligence to improve the user experience. The interactive, app-based AR navigation service, which is built on computer vision positioning and 3D scene reconstruction technology, can help passengers navigate through large buildings, such as airports, train stations, and malls, to reach a vehicle pick-up location. The driver voice assistant, which is voice activated via an in-vehicle smart device, is designed to provide a full spectrum of services ranging from audio and video content search, information inquiry and temperature adjustment, to passenger communications, customer service, and even refuel, recharging or repair services.
JD to monetize logistics assets -- E-commerce giant JD has announced it will establish a logistics assets management company to revive profits amid fierce ongoing competition with Alibaba Group Holding Ltd across retail, logistics and finance. The separate unit will develop, monetize and operate JD's logistics assets, said Sidney Huang, chief financial officer of JD, in a conference call. He said the company aims to monetize its logistics properties - including 2.5 million square meters of warehouse space - to compensate for part or all of the additional investments.
