BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- China Development Research Foundation had released a report jointly with Sequoia China on Wednesday, showing China is lack of the homegrown high-end talents for Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to the report, China's AI industry witnessed the rapid growth, with core industrial scale reaching 5.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2017. It is estimated that the market value of the industry will exceed 22 billion U.S. dollars by 2020.
Compared to developed countries, China still has a gap in the fields of basic theory, core algorithm, key equipment, software & interface for the industry. Meanwhile, China's high-level talents for the AI industry were scarce.
Secretary-general with China Development Research Foundation said that the country should increase the training of personnel in basic disciplines and expand the investment in innovation for the long-term development. In a bid to boost the development of AI industry, colleges and enterprises will be encouraged to cooperate and support the construction of AI and related subjects.
