Chemical giant BASF is making good progress with the construction of a new plant for the production of acetylene, an important starting material, at its Ludwigshafen site. The work is on schedule. The concrete and steel work is largely complete," a company spokeswoman said on Monday.
Around 750 workers are currently working on building the plant. The construction started at the beginning of 2017 and the plant, which will have an annual capacity of 90,000 tons, is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2019. Acetylene is the basis for many everyday products. It is used, for example, in the production of coffee capsules, sports shoes and hairspray.
