YANGON, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) has provided relief fund for Myanmar people in flood-affected areas in Yangon Monday.
On behalf of the RCSC, Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang handed over 100,000 U.S. dollars' relief fund to Myanmar Red Cross Society.
Hong expressed his belief that these fund could be a help in carrying out the relief operations in flood-affected areas and pledged to provide more assistance if necessary.
"China has been providing assistance for the disaster-affected people in Myanmar. We really appreciate China's assistance and promise to use the fund in our relief operations," Mya Thu, chairwoman of Myanmar Red Cross Society, told Xinhua.
In accordance with the figures from the National Natural Disaster Management Committee and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, at least 20 people were killed by flooding across Myanmar, especially in southern part of the country recently.
Relief operations and provision of humanitarian assistance to the flood-victims are being carried out by the authorities.
Due to the torrential rainfall and strong wind, houses, bridges and roads have also been destroyed by flooding in some regions and states in southern part of the country.
