BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) –China's Tian'en vessel recently has started its 18,520-kilometer journey from Lianyungang Port in east China's Jiangsu Province to Europe through "Polar Silk Road".
The Tian'en vessel was specially designed to sail in polar climate by China's COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd. and it is expected to arrive in Europe in early September.
The Tian’en vessel will enter the Arctic area by crossing the Bering Strait, and go south to arrive at the destination in Europe after travelling through the Arctic Ocean. This passage is expected to form the "Polar Silk Road".
The route through "Polar Silk Road" would shorten the travel time by 12 days and save 300 tons of fuel oil compared to traditional route, said Liang Jie, general manager of ship management department of COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers. (Edited by Zhang Ge)
