German technology conglomerate Siemens AG plan to invest 600 million euros (703 million dollars) in an innovation centre, a Zukunftscampus (translated meaning "future campus"), that will house offices, research laboratories and high-tech production facilities.
The location of the campus could be in the Siemensstadt district of Berlin. The site may also be opened to an international tender allowing for other interested parties to apply for the project. The Siemens Group Executive Board is still in discussion on the plans.
Siemens have engaged start-up companies to take part in the conceptualizing and designing of the campus project along with scientists and other innovators.
The campus site will have housing for students as well as regular Berlin residents. According to the initial plans of Siemens, the industrial area will be a modern district that includes spaces for recreation and leisure.
The Siemens board will enter into discussions with the Berlin Senate about the project.
