BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's leading telecom equipment supplier Huawei has surpassed Apple to become the second largest smartphone maker globally by shipments in the second quarter of this year, according to data from U.S.-based data company.
Data showed that Samsung continued grabbing the NO.1 position in the global smartphone market in terms of shipment, with the registered shipment of 71.5 million units, while Huawei and Apple shipped 54.2 million units and 41.3 million units, respectively, ranking second and third globally.
In the second quarter of this year, global smartphone shipments totaled 342 million units, down 1.8 percent from the same period of last year, registering the third consecutive quarterly decline.
