BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Cai Mingzhao, president of Xinhua News Agency, Monday met with Masao Omuro, president of Japan's Jiji Press News Agency, in Beijing.
Cai said the media has played a unique and vital role in promoting relations between China and Japan.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship, said Cai, hoping that Xinhua and Jiji Press will take this opportunity to further their friendly exchanges and cooperation and increase mutual understanding of the two peoples, so as to contribute to the cause of peace and friendship between China and Japan.
Noting that China and Japan enjoy close economic and trade exchanges, Cai said the two news agencies share broad prospects in cooperation on economic information.
He hoped that the two sides can expand the areas and elevate the levels of their cooperation on the basis of existing achievements to provide more information services for enterprises of the two countries.
Omuro lauded the long-term friendly cooperation between Jiji Press and Xinhua, saying Jiji Press hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Xinhua in such areas of the Japanese news service and economic information.
Xinhua launched its Japanese news service on Feb. 1, providing news articles, photographs, and video and audio reports in Japanese. The Japanese news service is Xinhua's first multi-media news service intended for an individual country.
