LONDON, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Innovate UK announced Wednesday that government funding had been awarded to technology projects including an ultrasonic hologram, and treatment for hospital superbugs.
The funding aims to boost the development of innovative health care technologies.
Some 67 projects were selected to share the 26-million-pound (33 million U.S. dollar) funding available through Biomedical Catalyst 2016, which is run by Innovate UK and the Medical Research Council.
Among these projects, a Glasgow-based company will create ultrasonic holograms to diagnose sexually transmitted infections much more quickly than the current tests allow.
Another company is using antibodies produced by sheep to develop a treatment for antibiotic-resistant superbugs, such as Chlostridium difficle (C difficle).
In the autumn of 2016, Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer Phillip Hammond announced 100 million pounds of additional funding to extend and enhance the Biomedical Catalyst to support life science companies and help medical technologies achieve commercial success.
