BEIJING, July 20 (Xinhua) -- China Unicom (South Africa) Operations Limited was opened in Johannesburg, South Africa on July 18 local time, becoming the first operation company of the Chinese telecom giant in Africa.
China Unicom has so far deployed 17 PoP ends in South Africa. The South Atlantic Inter Link (SAIL) cable connecting Cameroon and Brazil, which is jointly invested with Camtel, will be the largest submarine route by capacity with the shortest delay between Africa and South America, according to a report by people.com.cn.
It is noted that China Unicom will strengthen its network infrastructure investment and construction in Africa, while work closely with African operators and equipment manufacturers to provide products and solutions such as cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things, new ICT, and high-quality Internet in a bid to help local enterprises’ information construction and digital transformation, as well as provide high-quality information and communication services for Chinese companies to set foot in Africa and African companies to go global.
