BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhua) -- The Tianjin Nangang offshore wind farm has had the first five wind power units of phase I connect to grid and start power generation, with the remaining 13 units expected to be on grid before the end of this month.
Located in Nangang Industrial Zone in Tianjin Binhai New District, the wind farm is the first offshore wind power project in Tianjin as well as the largest of its kind in northern China, reported Shanghai Securities News.
The wind farm’s 18 power units are expected to generate 180 million kwh of electricity annually, which will reduce CO2 emissions of 192,000 tonnes.
Binhai New District currently has on-grid clean energy installed capacity of 922.3MW, accounting for 60.18 percent of Tianjin’s total. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
