BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Ansteel Group’s wholly-owned subsidiary Panzhihua Iron & Steel (Group) Co. and Alibaba Cloud jointly launched the “Steel Brain” project at Panzhihua Iron & Steel Xichang Steel Vanadium unit, marking the official landing of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in China's steel industry.
The project applies AI technology in reducing raw material consumption during steel making and surface defect identification for cold rolled products in a bid to reduce production costs, optimize production processes, and improve efficiency.
The project is expected to complete preliminary inspection and acceptance in March of 2019 and go into official operation in April. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
