BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Tangshan City, a big steel producer in north China’s Hebei Province, will reduce its steel production capacity by 7.81 million metric tons (tonnes) this year, according to the local authorities.
To be specific, the city will cut iron-making capacity by 2.81 million tones and steel-making capacity by 5 million tonnes.
The local authorities require the task to be completed by the end of November.
In recent years, Tangshan has actively responded to the national industrial policies and taken the initiative to speed up “de-capacity” in the steel industry.
Since 2013, it has eliminated a total of 70.22 million steel and iron production capacities.
It is reported that Tangshan will cut the number of its iron and steel enterprises to 30 or less by 2020 and to about 25 by 2025 from the current 40. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
