BACCARA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The commencement ceremony of the national grid development and reconstruction project in Cote d'Ivoire, undertaken by China National Machinery Industry Corporation Ltd (Sinomach), was held on Saturday.
Amadou Gon Coulibaly, prime minister of Côte d’Ivoire, said that this project is one of the largest projects in the energy sector in Côte d'Ivoire. Upon completion, it will enhance the existing transmission capacity of Cote d'Ivoire and the stability of the national grid, and significantly expand the national electrification coverage.
The implementation of the project will also provide a large number of jobs for local residents, promote the development of education and health sectors, and help residents in rural and suburban areas to carry out economic activities and improve living conditions.
Tang Weibin, Chinese Ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire said that China decided to provide a certain amount of preferential loans, send domestic high-quality engineering enterprises, and support the implementation of power grid development and transformation projects, in a bid to help Cote d'Ivoire to improve the existing power system.
In recent years, the government of Cote d'Ivoire has accelerated the constructionof electric power infrastructure to meet the rapidly growing power demand. (Editedby Ma Xin, maxin11@xinhua.org)
