German energy production from renewable sources - mostly wind power - hit a new record over the first six months of the year, measured at over 100 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) for the first time.
According to figures from energy giant Eon, electricity from wind, solar, water and biomass came to 104 billion kWh from January to June, an increase of about 9 per cent compared to the previous year.
Power from Germany's wind farms, concentrated in the north both on- and off-shore, accounted for about half of the total, at 55 billion kWh, 7 billion more than the same period last year.
Solar came to 21 billion kWh, biomass to 20 billion kWh and hydropower created 9 billion kWh of power.
